Every year my favorite event on the SFC calendar is our USA National Conference. The purpose of the event is to give our network of leaders an opportunity to meet up with each other, share stories, pray with one another, and receive some teaching and encouragement from our National Office. We try to meet up in a town where we have some SFC presence. That allows for some early season riding time and some accommodations that will put up with our rowdy crew. This year that venue was Welches, Oregon, near Mt. Hood. The conference we had the honor of hosting was nothing less than spectacular.
The 80 or so folks that joined us for the weekend came in with open hearts and minds ready to fellowship and seek the heart of God together. The speaking team included snowboarding legends, longtime SFC mentors, and regulars alike; each with a message that cut straight to the heart that was prepared with our one-of-a-kind audience in mind. We were even able to sneak in a morning on the hill together to enjoy the incredibly unseasonable 8 inch snow storm God provided. Continuing an SFC tradition, the conference ended with an extended time of worship and prayer for one another. Once again this year, the room was thick with the presence of the Holy Spirit. I can’t think of a better way to send our crew off to face the season and the challenges that come with being a light on the hill.
As we all head home and reflect on what is in store for the season, I’m confident that this conference will be a turning point in encouragement and relationships that will have a lasting effect.
I’d like to give a special thanks to Laicina Canham for working so hard to handle all of the details that made this conference possible and to our amazing regional directors for working working tirelessly to support SFC leaders in and out of season.
